The Birmingham Music Club (B.M.C.) was first established by its Chairman Jackson Williams in July of 2014. It’s focus is the engagement of at-risk youth in the urban community through the power of music. The BMC primarily focuses on rap / hip-hop, but also branches out into other areas of the arts.

Hip-hop is often seen in a negative light, especially as portrayed by the mass media. Many forget that hip-hop found its roots in Activism, Unity & Respect. It transcends racial dividing-lines that we see so readily in society today. Every race, color and creed of people are welcome in hip-hop – for many, it’s a way of life.

Birmingham has a growing segment of youth who are considered at-risk – many are on pace to drop out of high-school, and an alarming number will turn to a life of crime. At the Birmingham Music Club, we believe that as a community, it is our duty to prevent this by any means necessary.

By teaching hip-hop related skills to these youth – producing, DJing, MCing, etc. – we hope to bring about hope and inspiration in their lives. We can give these youngsters they 2nd chance they deserve, and it starts with music. By meeting with like-minded, music-oriented individuals, we can create a social-circle for them that doesn’t revolve around gang mentality.

Interested in producing? Check out the FutureProducers message board or Making Hip-Hop subreddit – both are great communities, filled with knowledgeable individuals ready to help you.

Looking for some beats to rap on? The SoundClick charts are a great place to start. Many producers post their beats for free, and you’re able to rap on them so long as you don’t sell the music. If you DO plan on selling the music, you can license the beat(s) for as little as $20. Simple! And if you don’t have a budget, you can always download some royalty free beats.

Have music you’re ready to post? Check out SoundCloud – they’re a music megasite with many great features. And best of all, it’s FREE to make your own page! You can even get some free SoundCloud plays to get your account started. Very handy if you’re just starting out and you need a quick boost to get your page going.
